The crystal-clear waters and minor temperature changes throughout the year are ideal conditions for preserving the marine ecosystem around the island. Off the coast of Fuerteventura, diving enthusiasts can find shallow, sandy dive sites and volcanic formations full of marine life.

There are more than 60 dive sites around Fuerteventura, both for professional divers and beginners. Because of this, regardless of your level of experience, you can enjoy a peaceful dive down to its spectacular sea beds.

1. Isla de Lobos

It is well worth making the short trip to the Isla de Lobos to seek out the most advanced dives this region has to offer. In just a few square metres of seabed, you can find a wide range of marine life. The 2-metre-long wahoos attract predators, while gilt-head bream, damselfish, large groupers and barracuda are always exciting to watch.

2. Veril Grande

The crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life make this site one of the best places for diving in Fuerteventura. There are lots of freshwater eels, black moray eels, cardinal tetra, groupers, crabs, axillary seabream, rays, barracuda, parrot fish, sharks, angel sharks and many other species.

3. Veril Pequeño

This is a small reef to the south of Fuerteventura, near the Morro Jable lighthouse. You must dive 15 metres to reach this reef. Inexperienced divers can position themselves above the dive site, while experienced divers can descend along the wall to dive to a greater depth. As well as many large fish, there are also small species such as sea anemones and caridean shrimp.

4. Jandía

This site has been used by all types of divers for a very long time. Here you can find groups of striped seabream, brown garden eels and moray eels, among many other species.

5. Morro Jable Harbour

This is a sandy bed running along the wall of the Morro Jable port in Fuerteventura. Accessed by boat, this spot is suitable for divers of all levels. The diving depth is from 6 to 14 metres. Angel sharks, spiny butterfly rays, electric rays, spotted eagle rays and carapace rays, barracudas, a school of coastal fish and seabream, moray eels and small fish can be seen here.

6. Playa Bajón del Río

The most famous dive site in Fuerteventura is located in the channel with Los Lobos, in the north of the island, just 5 minutes by boat from the port of Corralejo. It is known as Bajon del Río. This dive can be enjoyed by divers of all levels, but only in suitable current and tide conditions. It is a golden sand hollow at a maximum depth of 18 metres from which volcanic rocks rise several metres high.

7. Ajui

This dive site is highly dependent on weather conditions, so we recommend only visiting on certain days during the summer. The dive will allow you to enjoy the incredible volcanic formations and, if you are a professional diver, you will be able to see angel fish and manta rays.

8. Punta de Chupadero

This is a place with open waters of different depths but diving near its coast is a safe and very peaceful activity. You can see Atlantic trumpet fish, groupers, manta rays, octopus, barracuda, spider crabs, angel sharks and lots of marine life. It is definitely one of the best places for diving in Fuerteventura.

9. Caleta de Fuste

Caleta de Fuste is protected from strong waves and currents and the water is shallow. The beach is famous for its horseshoe shape and it is the ideal place for diving. Fans of this water sport will be able to enjoy a safe dive. The species in this area are dolphins, turtles, sperm whales and the whale shark.

10. Playa del Jablito

This diving area is protected from the currents due to its particular shape and, therefore, offers the opportunity to dive throughout the year. Numerous species can be seen on this reef: sea cucumbers, crabs, tiger moray eels, scorpions, seahorses, seabream, parrot fish, barracuda, spider crabs, damselfish, angel sharks and more.
