Transport in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is definitely an island to explore, whether on foot, by bike, bus or car, you can’t miss every corner of the island and be surprised by its charms. Below we give you the pros and cons of each of the options offered by the island so that you can explore it from end to end.

Bus

If your plan is to get around the island by bus, here are the best tips and information on how to do it in the best possible way.

This is an excellent way to get between the main tourist areas (Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife and Costa Teguise), however it may be a little more complicated if you want to get to the villages of the island that are off the beaten track. The main public transport companies on the island offer a service to these off the beaten track areas but you will need to transfer or start from the bus terminal in the island’s capital (Arrecife). Below you will find a link to access the routes, prices and bus lines of the island so you can move around the island with this means of transport.

Rent a car

This is undoubtedly the best way to get around the island.  If you are one of those travellers who don’t want to miss anything at your destination, having a car during your stay in Lanzarote will allow you to travel at your own pace without having to depend on anything or anyone else.

The island offers a wide range of car rentals of all ranges and sizes, which will give you the comfort and flexibility you need to get around without any problems.

At the airport you’ll find local and international car hire companies, giving you a well-balanced list of options to choose from to suit your needs.

We recommend checking online and booking your car before you arrive on the island to save you money and, more importantly, time at your destination.

Taxi

Of course, Lanzarote has a taxi service so you can get around the island without any problems. Obviously this service is not the cheapest if your plan is to travel around the island from end to end, but it is an excellent alternative for getting to and from the airport or going out for dinner without the need to drive.

We recommend this service as an ideal and complementary alternative to the others mentioned above.

Bicycle

Lanzarote is an island frequented by cyclists from all over the world. Its landscapes and roads are highly attractive for cycling, allowing you to combine sport and nature in an incredible experience whatever the destination.

On the island you will find a bike rental offer for all tastes, whether it is simply to ride along the promenade from Puerto del Carmen to Arrecife enjoying a refreshing ride by the sea or to challenge yourself on the roads from Tahiche to the north of the island and reaching points such as Arrieta, Orzola, Ye, or Haría you will find the bike you need depending on your needs.

Walking

If you enjoy trekking, Lanzarote offers many routes for you to explore the island at your own pace.  Enjoy incredible landscapes and reach places that only those who dare can enjoy. Among the most recommended routes are the ascent to the Volcán del Cuervo, the ascent to Caldera Blanca, the descent along the Camino de los Gracioseros, the ascent to the Ricón de la Paja, the circular route through Haría, the visit to the Barranco de Teseguite or the ascent to the Presa de Mala. Be sure to visit many more trails on the island and marvel at its incredible corners.
